We will take another break from the "Elements of Design" while we post our favorite photo from last year. Which, you may ask: Your most emotional photo or the photo that got the most accolades? Since this is "your favorite" photo, lets see the one that YOU like the best - leave the opinions of the critics aside for this one. Post under your own name in either of the two posting communities and entitle the entry as "Photo Challenge: FAVORITE OF 2008" (<--this part is important or I may miss your entry and it won't make the recap).

My thanks to the following two communities moderators for all their hard work, not only on the challenges, but all year long with the communities. It's a lot of work to do this job:

[info]behind_the_lens

Please follow all the community's rules and regulations, and you must join the communities in order to post in them.

Next month we will return to the "Elements of Design" series. Here's the schedule for the series:

August 08 - LINE
Sept 08 - SHAPE
October 08 - Break - non-element of design "CHROME"
November 08 - FORM
December 08 - TEXTURE
January 09 - Break - "My Favorite Photo of 2008"
February 09 - PATTERN
March 09 - COLOR

As usual, photoshop or other photo altering software is optional, but certainly not required. Please use a photo that YOU envisioned and orchestrated in 2008. Keep the size of your photo posting to max largest side 640 pixels. I can only accept one post for the recap per person, so if you want to post many different photos, please let me know which one you’ve chosen as your “entry.” Please keep the posting date on your post close to the announced posting dates. The reason I ask this is because I pick them up on those days and if you go too early or late, I may not see them. I try to watch a couple of days before the post if some come in early. I will leave you a comment on your picture that indicates that I have picked it up for the recap. If you don't get a comment from me before the last day of posting, please email to let me know so I can go back and pick it up. My email is braddumm@yahoo.com and please indicate your posting link and screen name in the email.

Note that after the posting weekend is over, I will compile a “Recap Post” of all the entries (usually posting on Monday morning, Los Angeles Time). Please note that in the recap post your photo will be reduced to the Live Journal "Insert Image" standard size. After seeing the entire list, put in a comment about your favorites photos. Note this isn’t a contest but rather a showcase between photographers and admirers of photography. All levels of photographers, from beginners to professionals, are encouraged to post photos in the challenges.

Want to see the recaps from prior photo challenges? Here are the last three months:

Your photo reminds me of a series my friend Steven Miller did a few years back, called "Milky" - check them out at http://www.smiller555.com/milky.html

That's a great series your friend did. I actually got the idea from someone else's photo many years ago on bear411...very similar idea to your friends...your friend has many good ideas on his site...thanks for sharing that with me!

I was about to write the same thing

Ohh geeezzz were do I begin.

your guidelines on this are a little vague, Brad... by "your favorite" do you mean "my favorite picture *that I took*" or "my favorite picture *that someone else took*"?

Sorry for the confusion - in my photo above, I had the vision ahead of time, I put it together, I set it up and I framed it. Because I was pouring milk onto my head, I didn't snap the photo....my partner pushed the button my on camera, on my tripod, on my command. I consider it mine. I did the after affects, too. I encourage only putting in photos you consider your own. Do not put in photos that you just took from someone else's archives. Note that this example was chosen purposely to address this issue.

Milk!? I thought it was paint or something thick it, seemed way too viscous to be milk. Was this one of those random ideas that come to mind? Very original.

Many years ago I was on a chat site and there was a guy that had a similar "Milk" photo, but instead of sunglasses, he had square, Drew Carey type glasses and his was Black & White. I always admired it. This year I had a photo challenge called "Flow" and I decided to do my own "milk" photo...yep...just regular old milk...you should have seen my dogs at my feet licking it up after the shoot...LOL

Great Photo Brad

so I take it you like to have white stuff on you! LOL

i've never posted before so i'm not sure which communities are the ones to post in. i could assume its the "photographers" and "behind the lens" communities, but i'd feel better if i knew for sure.

thanks! ;O)

You go tit right - [info]photographers and
[Error: Irreparable invalid markup ('<ljuser="behind_the_lens">') in entry. Owner must fix manually. Raw contents below.]

You go tit right - <lj user="photographers"> and <ljuser="behind_the_lens"> - you should join one of them and post under your own name. Since you are on my friends list, you can just post on your own LJ and I'll pick it up...but your photo will get more exposure if you post it through the communities...I'm glad you'll join us this month!

its seems weird to join in on a month like this, but its my one chance to do something with a photo from last year, so better late than never.

Nah...anyone is welcome to join in at anytime and for as long as they want or just join for a topic that's interesting to them. If you stay with it monthly, you'll learn and grow with your camera...but it's totally up to you as to how you roll here...welcome at any time!
